Holiday Time Preparations: How to Keep an Organized and Clean Home

It's that time of year when we start holiday shopping, preparing elaborate meals, and spending time with family and friends. This season is definitely different from previous holidays as many of us have been shut in due to the pandemic. Although it is flu season and there are threats of increased COVID cases and RSV, many of us look forward to this time of year because it means time with family and friends that we often don't have.

I know this holiday season my husband, kids, and I will not be traveling, we will be enjoying great food at home. As co-owner of DJM Cleaning, LLC, wife, and mother of 4, my family leads very busy lives. It is important for me to stay organized and a big part of staying organized is having a clean home.

Southern Living Magazine has a great online article on how to stay organized, https://www.southernliving.com/home/organization/how-to-organize-your-home. I use these tips to keep an organized home. The article provides 10 great shortcuts to keeping an organized home. I have provided the 10 items below:

Organizing your home per Southern Living Magazine
  1. Keep Clothes Off the Floor
  2. Keep Beds Made and Nightstands Clear
  3. Make Your Mudroom Multitask
  4. Limit Your Laundry
  5. Make Your Entryway More Efficient
  6. Create a Command Center
  7. Keep Linen Storage Tidy
  8. Declutter Your Closet
  9. Utilize Every Inch
  10. Tame the Tech
I'm not only an owner of DJM Cleaning but I am also a client. I mentioned the 4 kids but not the 2 dogs. We have a small Shih Tzu and a new puppy that is a Great Pyrenese. So we have a very busy family but also a lot to keep up with. I use the Perfect Maintenance Recurring Service from DJM Cleaning on a weekly basis to help me to maintain my home and my sanity.

I thought a lot about having help cleaning and maintaining my home before trying a cleaning service. My husband and I have owned DJM Cleaning, LLC for seven years this year, but prior to owning a cleaning service, we were just clients that tried out different cleaning services. We used a cleaning service for move-out cleans in the past to ensure we left any property we were vacating in good condition. We also used move-in cleans before moving into a property to ensure it was thoroughly clean before settling in. I will admit, we had never used a regular recurring service until a few years ago while owning the company.

One realization I made when providing customers estimates for regular maintenance cleaning, was that DJM Cleaning provided a much-needed service and I had a lot in common with my clients. At the time, we had 3 kids, and the business was growing but we were dealing with regular life activities; dropping kids off at school, plays, soccer games, etc. that took priority over doing a load of laundry or vacuuming. Don't ask me why it wasn't until I realized the peace my company brought to customers that I needed the service as well.

A great way to prepare and get through the business of the holidays is to be organized but if you find yourself really really busy, hiring a cleaning service could help relieve some of the to-dos on the to-do list. You can call your local cleaning company to get an estimate on a deep clean before the holiday guest arrives or even look into a regular recurring service before the New Year to have a more organized and clean home as we go into 2023. Of course, you can also call DJM Cleaning and have a chat with us about how we can help at 919-648-2727.

In this blog post, we will explore the best ways to do laundry and how to keep laundry done on a regular basis. 1. Sort your laundry:  Sorting your laundry is the first step to ensure that your clothes are washed properly. Separate your clothes into whites, darks, and colors to prevent bleeding and fading.
